We shared our philosophy on showing gratitude to our security guards, it was so well received that we were featured in a recent Forbes article.

Unfortunately gratitude is often overlooked in our industry, especially when it comes to security guard services. We’ve been in operation for over 25 years now and we can say with confidence that if we didn’t emphasize a culture of respect and gratitude at every level of our company we would not be as successful as we are today.
Often times throughout our hiring process we learn that candidates are leaving their prior employers not for more money or better benefits. It’s because they simply aren’t treated with respect and their efforts to provide for the safety and security of their clients are not appreciated by managers and senior leadership. These security candidates find it hard to trust that we truly do not operate this way, however, within the first few weeks our leadership makes it a point to get to know everyone working for us on a personal level and develop a strong working relationship.
The keys for us have been to always be responsive to every employees needs and concerns, understand their circumstances, give them the tools to succeed, and help to advance their careers within our company or pursue careers elsewhere, in law enforcement for example. A nice recent example to illustrate our gratitude and appreciation to our employees came last Thanksgiving when we thought it would be a great surprise to give all our security guards a Thanksgiving bonus, we couldn’t believe how positive the response was. The bonus was unexpected and took our employees by surprise, it really brought our entire security team together, boosted productivity, and created an overall positive vibe which our clients took note of without having known we provided an unexpected bonus to our staff.
We received some incredible responses immediately after, here’s one example:
“It’s really a pleasure to receive an email from you saying happy thanksgiving which is not something many security companies out there doing. It shows me you really add value into your employees. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well and your family.”
We’re always looking for new opportunities to show our gratitude to employees like the Thanksgiving bonus example. The benefits we’ve seen is extremely low employee turnover, which in turn helps our clients as they have the same familiar security guard staff working at their facilities for years rather than seeing a new unfamiliar face that may not know the nuances of their business. Managers and supervisors do not have to spend the time training and re-training new hires and can instead focus strictly on quality control, addressing client needs, and refining our services.
Another quote from an employee of ours which shows the positive environment that we cultivate has an impact and a lasting impression:
“Their core values based on integrity, accountability, and respect which align to mine, and there was never a security company that I worked where the owner called you over the phone just to check on you, I love the level of the humility and humbleness they have, and they really put people first before profits.”
Overall, we feel that communication is key. Employees appreciate timely responses and they are notably happier on the job when their supervisors and managers go out of their way to thank them for performing well. Their past employment experiences may have jaded their perspectives, they don’t expect the direct signs of appreciation and gratitude. It’s nice to be in a position where we as a company can take the stress and apprehension away from the working relationship and replace it with confidence that we will be a good fit for them.
