HOW TO SELECT THE RIGHT SECURITY GUARD COMPANY?
With only a few key questions you can easily narrow down the scope of your search for the security guard company that best suits your needs. Let’s look where to begin, click through the questions for recommendations.
We wish this question didn’t have to be asked, unfortunately there are security companies that look to cut corners however they can. If a quote is too good to be true, it just might be. Maintaining proper insurance requirements, licenses, and training all come at a cost; these are strict requirements and you should not hesitate to ask for documentation.
We cannot put enough emphasis on this question. The guards your security company provides for you are vital to the success of your security program and are ultimately responsible for the safety and security of your most critical assets – your people, your reputation, and your property. Not every company does their due diligence when making security hires, some even conduct “group interviews” and make job offers to candidates they haven’t even met with one-on-one. Our advice is to look for a security company that takes its hiring practices as seriously as you do and goes the extra mile to conduct thorough background checks along with an in-depth interview process.
You’ll also want to dive into their training practices, do they simply comply with the state minimums? Or do they spend the time to ensure critical life-saving training such as CPR and First Aid or Active Shooter and Workplace Violence training is provided? Is that training conducted routinely and for all their security staff?
A good security company is going to have a robust supervision and management program that should be clearly articulated long before the security is in place. You should ask who the company will assign to be your accounts primary manager. Will you feel confident that manager is right for the job and for your organization, responsive to your needs, professional, have a great rapport with security guards, and most of all they’ll be with you for the foreseeable future. Security supervision is another key component, it should frequent and highly visible, but supervisors should also be making unaccounted site visits at all times and days of the week to ensure quality control equally across your account.
These apps have become a very powerful tool and not every security company has come around to adopting them. A guard management app can monitor where each guard is deployed in real time with GPS, these apps can detect anomalies and generate reports on the fly, generates key insights, and valuable KPI’s. These apps not only help a security company more effectively monitor and manage their guard force, but they also serve as a tool to ensure the safety of every guard on duty.
Longevity is great for peace of mind, knowing your company has been around for years speaks to their stability and reliability. With that longevity comes key experience with specific industries and the associated security challenges within that industry. In addition, an experienced security guard provider is going to have established connections into local law enforcement and have a great pulse on the local crime types and how to mitigate those most prominent threats.
Begin evaluating this immediately, from your first correspondence whether it be by email or on the phone. The gut instinct you get when dealing with a security company should not be ignored. If a company is professional, responsive, and attentive to your needs from the very beginning it’s likely this will extend into their security services. You’re a potential client and you should feel comfortable asking the tougher questions and feel confident that you’ll be able to achieve a lasting, positive vendor/client relationship. The values and mission held by leadership is going to be passed along and picked up by the security personnel within a company, strong customer service within management is an indicator that the customer service of the security personnel will be just as strong.
The breadth of security has a wide range, it’s important understand that not every security company is going to specialize in serving your needs. Look for their industry strengths, ask what sort of clients account for the majority of their business, and even whether security itself is their number one focus. There are many security companies that offer unrelated services such as cleaning or maintenance services, do you really want to work with a company that has a split focus? Look at the company’s web presence and look at what their employees and clients are saying about them on the plethora of review sites. Are the reviews even relevant to your needs? Are their current of former employees raising serious concerns within their reviews? If something catches your attention don’t hesitate to ask about it.
